Here are some pics of my sister's kitchen. It is a decent size by European standards.
This large window is AWESOME. It looks out to their side yard which is where they keep a small garden. The black space on the counter is an electric cook top. It always takes getting used to the electric cook top when I'm here. The only thing I really miss from my kitchen when I'm here is my gas stove.

Are the refrigerators smaller in Europe because the assumption is that you are going to the markets on a more frequent basis (like daily)?
ReplyDeleteTino, people here definitely shop more often and in smaller quantities. My sister has a root/wine cellar in the basement that is great for holding produce which saves room if the fridge is full.
ReplyDeleteFunny thing is, I shop on a daily basis (or every other day), and I still need a huge refrigerator to hold all of my "essentials". The root cellar sounds like a great idea, though. Does it stay cool year-round?
ReplyDeleteEdsel, the root cellar does stay cool year round. I will take some pics of it and post them when I take pics of the rest of the house (sometime this week). I would need a bigger fridge if we were to stay here long term. Like you said, the "essentials" take up so much room!

I had the best of intentions but time got away from me in a crazy way getting us ready to leave on fairly short notice. Anyway, your menu looks great and I am eager to check the place out when we get back home. It seems like a very good fit for you.

r.e. root cellars...they're awesome. I took some potatoes from mom's garden that had been kept in her root cellar home about a month ago and put them in my pantry. I went to go use one of them over the weekend, and...pseudopods. Three-foot-long pseudopods crawling up the side of my pantry, attached to wee little shriveled potatoes. Hooray, because I needed new nightmares; I'd worn out the old ones. Pseudopods do not happen to my mom because she keeps her monster taters properly locked away in the root cellar.

Finally got a chance to start reading here. I find the tiny kitchens in Europe to be so interesting, though it's been years since I went and will probably be many more before I can return. I really enjoyed the pix of the kitchen!
